Recognizing the potential of a natural harbour strategically placed on the West coast of India, the British built a dockyard in Bombay. The story started when shipbuilding contracts were signed with an enterprising Parsi, Lovji Nussarwanjee Wadia. In time, the Docks went on to play a key role in Bombay’s rich mercantile past and in shaping it as the country's most commercial, financial, trading and industrial hub.
Entrusted with shipbuilding contracts from the British, the Wadias built over a hundred Malabar teak ships in what was the largest dock in the world outside Europe. The finest of ships, including several historic vessels, like the HMS Cornwallis (on which the Nanking Treaty was signed) and HMS Minden (where the American national anthem was composed) were manufactured here, surpassing the quality standards of ships built in Europe. The HMS Trincomalee, the world's oldest ship afloat since 1817 was also made here. The Wadias were practically the unwritten lords of the seas and Bombay was the foremost port of the powerful marine world.
During this walking tour, you will hear about the landmark events that made history in the Bombay Docks. Learn how the evolution of Bombay is linked to the episodes that occurred at the Docks, including the ice-house from where Bombay conducted its ice trade with the US; the deadly explosions in a British freighter which showered gold bullion; and see the oldest residential building in the city. Endless stories are waiting to be told at Asia's earliest dry dock, right here in the ‘City of Dreams’, Mumbai. Question is, how deep do you want to go?

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Kerala. We loved the village life walk and Fort Cochin walk. The backwater cruise in a traditional country boat was an incredible experience. As a solo traveller, I felt safe and was exceptionally well taken care of. The cooking class in Jaipur was extremely enjoyable. The food, chef, and his wife were all exceptional and made for a lovely evening. Also, our expectations were definitely exceeded at a private residence, spending time with the elephants and lunching. Thanks for organising a great trip to Lucknow and Varanasi. The hotels at both the places were excellent; we had a great guide in Varanasi who went beyond the designated tour route and showed us around. The food tour in Lucknow was amazing and re-discovering the Awadhi Cuisine was a great experience – the kebabs were out of the world!
It was a terrific experience to spot the King of the jungle in all their glory at Gir. We had a very good experience overall.
